Kathy Venter's talking about her 6 installations and over 30 sculptures exhibited at the Gardiner Museum in Toronto, summer 2013 from Jamvido on Vimeo.
LIFE offers a survey of internationally acclaimed ceramicist Kathy Venter, including the never-before-seen series MetaNarrative as well as many of the artist's signature life-sized sculptures. Celebrating her debut at Bellevue Arts Museum as part of the seminal BAM Biennial 2010: Clay Throwdown! exhibition, the Canadian artist continues her exploration of the universal tale of human existence. Her timeless sculptures are formed using the ancient craft of hand-coiling and pinching from the feet up, without molds or internal armature. In her work, Venter engages with her own life experiences alongside a vast array of historical and contemporary sources, including the Tanagra figures of Ancient Greece and African rites of puberty which inspire her sculptures' provocative surface treatment.
