The Effects of Hard Water on Alginate

We all learn from experience. But when mixing alginate for mold making, you may want to avoid this experience. Do not mix hard water and alginate. As it just may ruin your casting session. The result of combining hard water and alginate powder produces a cottage cheese-like mix and often a mix that doesn't set. Even if it does set as you hoped, the lumpy mix will provide an uneven and unsightly surface surface.
