1989 The Prince William Sound, Alaska 11 million gallons of crude oil - 1996 Pembrokeshire Harbor, Wales, 170 million liters of crude oil - 1994 Komi Republic, Russia 100,000 barrels of crude oil - 1994 Persian Gulf 5 million gallons of crude oil""" Ads devastating as oil spill are they are just a small piece of the massive destruction we do to this underwater world. We now use airplanes, radar, sonar and even satellites to spot where fish are known to congregate and breed. We use long drift nets, pair trawls and long lines that stretch as far as 80 miles that contain thousands of baited hooks, to insure that we catch fish faster than they can reproduce. Our factories, sewage and agriculture, dump toxic substances into our waters adding excessive nutrients, causing phytoplankton to proliferate therefore robbing the water of oxygen, which causes massive fish kills. We have also managed to kill off 10% of the world's living coral reef and at current rates of destruction, another 60% could be lost in the next 20-40 years.
